Mmmm chocolate
I’m sure your parents have always told you that chocolate is bad for you. Well I’m here to tell you differently
Chocolate has been known as the food of the gods for centuries. Chocolate was also once used for trade and in some places was even used as money for trading and buying things
Chocolate comes from the cocoa bean which is the fruit of the of the cacao tree. So you may think it is a fruit but it is in fact classified as a vegetable. And you know that we need to eat our vegetables…. 5 servings a day! Imagine that in chocolate. So when you get caught eating chocolate you can let your parents know that your just eating your veges!
Is chocolate really good for you ? yes!
Studies have shown that the ingredients in dark chocolate can boost your brain power for up to 2 to 3 hours. So chocolate can increase your performance and alertness for short periods. So our teachers should let us repower our brains by eat eating chocolate during the day- might keep us kids on task and paying attention!!
Chocolate has also been shown to lower the risks of strokes and also ease emotional stress. So if your felling stressed at school- homework’s due, doing tests – chocolate could be the answer.
Adults might say that chocolate is loaded with fat, sugar and caffeine. But the fat contained in dark chocolate actually contains 75% of good fat that has acids that help reduce cholesterol levels and only 25% is the bad kind of fat. So I argue that the good fat cancels out the bad fat- that’s got to be good , right ? remember it’s a vegetable!
What about the sugar? Well the darker the chocolate the less sugar it contains and dark chocolate has only the same amount of sugar as a glass of juice or a yoghurt- not bad at all!
And the caffeine in chocolate?? Well it’s only half what you find in a can of coke. Studies have also shown that having some caffeine everyday might actually be good for you!!
So chocolate has shown that it can be good for you- but remember too much of anything, including vegetables, can be bad for you
Mmmmm chocolate- food of the kids, I mean, gods!
